Blizzard Entertainment announced that World of Warcraft will receive an official classic-style “vanilla” server. The news comes from the opening ceremony of this year’s BlizzCon event. World of Warcraft Classic is Blizzard’s response to fans who have long begged for a server based on the original version of World of Warcraft. “We want to reproduce the game experience that we all enjoyed from the original, classic WOW,” said executive producer J. Allen Brack, following a trailer that revealed the server. Fans have worked on making their own vanilla servers over the years, some of which Blizzard Entertainment has shut down over copyright and other issues. But that hasn’t stopped players from wanting to return to the classic World of Warcraft experience. That typically refers to gameplay from prior to the Burning Crusade expansion, which dramatically changed the game when it launched in 2007. 2010’s Cataclysm expansion further removed content from what fans call the “vanilla” version of the game. Holy shit. My first thoughts after hearing the news were to come here.
As for my own very unworthy opinion, it'll probably be a modified version. More balance and maybe even those items which scale with your level (or whatever shit they're called).
What I really wonder, will the servers progress through expansions? Or simply rest in vanilla?

I do not think that private servers will really suffer much, considering that Official servers will still be at that 1x grind.

i hate 1x myself, but as you can see the popularity of certain privates, this is what most want. i wont be playing nor paying blizz but im sure vanilla players will flock to it. the only way ull have me go back is if classic will have NO BGs and no Honor system. but that wont be ever happening. grind is a huge part of blizz's scam to keep u clicking your mouse and keyboard to have u enslave u by playing their game and paying them year after year. no ty. |

Of course anyone with half an ounce of brain power could've told Blizzard that the easiest way to stop private servers is to release old content for free... I guess they enjoy milking the DMCA cow
