Offtank. What does it mean, what shall i do?

Hey guys  

Finally 60 pop on my warrior  

I ask a guild,  for an raid seet. They say, they are full of off warris and mt's, but they look for an offtank.

Here are my questions:

Whats exectly the job of an offtank in a 40 raid and what should i spec? Same spec as MT? Offspec (arms, fury)? and tank when needed?
What gear should i prefer? Tank gear? Dps gear?
Whats my job when 1/2 mts is enough?

Off-tank mainly tanks adds in a boss fight and trash mobs.

Get tank gear an a tank spec. Just like you would if you were a MT. Tho' if you want to get some extra, you can get a second weapon to generate more threat at boss fights or you can get yourself a Nightfall crafted so you can occasionally buff the damage casters do.

Exactly what shaken said, but you can use a bit different spec and gear aswell.

If I would specc as offtank, I would maybe add points to stuff like

- Improved demoshout
- Piercing howl

Just to help out on the trash/bosses and to increase the survivability of the raid.

Sure, but I personally don't put that many points in the one-handed weapon specialization because AFAIK, higher damage doesn't give you more rage and the threat bonus from the damage increase is negligible.

You can think about putting two points onto that improved shield wall for the extra 6 seconds which is a lot.

Tanking is the only thing that is remotely difficult in Vanilla, if you are as unfamiliar with the game as you seem, my advice would be to Gear/Specc fury until you get a better feeling for it.
