Title: DRGsabin GM Application Post by: DRGsabin2 on June 23, 2022, 01:02:42 am R1: I have been a member for 6 months or more for GMs. 1 month or more for Testers.
Yes, 7 months R2: I am 18 years old or more. Yes, 33 years old R3: I can be online at least 3 hours a day. Yes. Q1. What is your main character's in-game name? DRGsabin, although some know me as Babytreesus as that is my main window when multiboxing. Q2. What is your real name? Sabin Q3. Where in the world are you located (time zone GMT+/-)? Washington State, USA. PDT Seattle (GMT-7) Q4. When are you available to work as a GM? (Be specific please: days/times) Reliably, Monday-Friday and Sunday 1600 - 2300, but somedays I am online more than that and I don't mind knocking out tickets while I'm on. Q5. How old are you? 33 years old Q6. How much time each day do you spend on WoW, on the forums or in-game? It varies, about 4 hours on average. Significantly more on some days. Q7. Have you played Retail? If so, for how long? Yes, up to and including Warlords of Draenor. I had generally played through at least the first season of PvP obtaining gladiator in each expansion, but I felt that the game got worse with each new expansion, finally putting a nail in the coffin in WoD where I thought I had quit for the last time, until the announcement of Classic. I prefer vanilla above all other iterations of the game. Q8. Tell us a little about yourself. I am a US Navy veteran currently working on my Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science. Besides playing on VG, some of my other hobbies include Airsoft, soccer, magic (card, coin, and ball manipulation), and rigging together experimental electric gadgets in my garage that would probably be unsafe for a consumer market. I'm a very active PvPer, and am always up for a good duel when I'm not doing something. I found VG through an old Furyswipes video and wanted to try the game in a different way, to 40box raids. Q9. Have you had previous experience as a Gamemaster? If yes, please explain. Yes, on two servers. After our guild broke up on Blizzard vanilla over failure to kill pre-nerf C'thun repeatedly, some of us went to a private server together, where I eventually became a GM. It was one of the first Mangos 1.12.1 private servers, named Deathstorm. A few months later, admins made changes that some of us felt were drastic changes to the server and were heading in the direction of a fun server, rather than the blizzlike environment we all joined for. When I voiced this opinion, I was told that if I could do it better, I should make my own server, and so I did. I later founded Dark Revolution 1.12.1 private server where at peak we reached around 300 players online, and maybe 1,500 active. Eventually we caved to pressure to upgrade to TBC which Mangos had recently released an emulation of, and this divided the player base to a point that it killed the server and our motivation to rebuild. I had intimate understanding of the early mangos SQL tables which I had manipulated to make the server the best that it could be, teaching myself SQL in the process. Q10. Explain why you think you would be a good Gamemaster. I am an active player, cool-headed, have extensive game knowledge, GM experience, and a desire to make the server better. Q11. What interests you most about becoming a Gamemaster ? Providing the players a great experience, and showing that the VG staff has a presence and is here if needed. The thing that initially drew my interest was hearing one too many times that "there are no active GMs", especially during "NA" times. I thought: "what if I was a GM?". I am already helping players and answering questions in world chat often, referring players who ask if a GM is online to make a ticket in-game and on discord. As a GM, I would have the ability to help in other ways. Q12. Do you know WHAT a Gamemaster does? Please explain. A GM serves as a liaison between developers and the players. GMs are the face of the VG staff, and respond to players' tickets for various issues. GMs can also assist in bug-testing and fixing. GMs enforce the rules and sanction players for breaking them. Q13. What do you think is the most important thing a Gamemaster can do? As cheesy as it may sound, simply being active and assuring the players that they are there when needed. It's comforting for players to know that a GM is online, and a deterrent to rule-breaking and disruptive behavior. Q14. What will you do if a Player asks you for help? Assess if it is the kind of help that I can and should provide per server rules and core values, and if so, help the player to the best of my ability. Q15. What will you do if you are unable to help? If I am unsure how to solve the problem, I will consult my fellow GMs and admins. If I know what needs to be done but I am unable to, I will let the player know that I do not have access to do that, but have forwarded the issue to somebody who does, and forward their issue to someone who can help them. Q16. Gamemasters always use correct English spelling and grammar. Do you? Yes. I pride myself in my eloquence of the English language, both written and spoken. Q17. If an event gets out of control, how would you how would you handle the situation? If it is an issue that I cannot address directly, I would immediately notify someone who can, and assure the players that we are working on it. In the case of players' disorderly conduct, I would use my tools as a GM to take control of the scene, to mute disruptive players and move them to a more private location on GM island, where I would unmute them one by one and ask them to calmly explain what the problem is. Q18. Have you ever committed any act of fraud or dishonesty? If yes, please explain. No. It's just a game. My integrity is more important to me than any possible game loot. Sooner or later, Garr will drop me his binding. Q19. If you were going to submit a suggestion for us, what would it be? I have many, some of which I have shared extensively on the VG discord. I will provide a short list here: 1) A welcome note and 10g attached in the mail when a player reaches level 10, to help offset the disparity between x15 exp and x1 gold drops while leveling, for spells. 2) Similar to the way auctions are shown instantly to characters logged on the same IP, an automated action could be implemented when a player kills another player when both are logged on the same IP, temp ban or notify GMs. 3) I would like to host a monthly dueling tournament with cosmetic prizes (tabards, or a few thousand reputation for AV or AB, winner's choice). 4) Increase drop rates for: Fish from fishing, Dire Maul Trinket Books, Dungeon epics. 5) Similar to voting, a reward system for referring new players to the server. 6) An otherwise unobtainable mount in the voting shop for 3,000 points. Q20. What positive additions could you (or do you already) make to the server/Community? I am a friendly and helpful player, and I play at a time slot that I don't think other GMs generally do. I host the VG PvP Rankers discord, where players who are actively ranking from both factions are invited, declare themselves as rankers to their fellow rankers of the same faction, and play nice with the same faction. Due to this discord server, we know who the active rankers are and generally find people who are farming dirty honor without pvping by knowing what the person above and below them got last week. This system, in addition to fostering a friendlier atmosphere among PvP rankers, has caught and stopped several people from farming their own characters. Once I show them mathematically that they can achieve their rank goals with fairly low honor, without playing dirty like that, players generally cease those actions. I took the long-standing tradition of top-level PvP in wow of bracket-stacking, and adapted it to the standing system of VG where ranking players of the same faction can cooperate to meet goals in the minimum number of weeks, without being at each others' throats. But once in a while, there is a farmer who manages to hide for extended periods while farming obscene amounts of honor, never seen pvping, never inspected, griefing the rankers week after week. Those are people who I would like to catch as a GM and reset their ranked points. The ability to see the missing slots in last week's honor standings, and teleport to those players invisible without showing on social "who" list when these players are online would go a long way to finding the ones whom we have not been able to find and catching them in the act. I have done all that I can as a player and active PvPer to promote a healthy PvP system, the few who have slipped through anonymously are now farming at such high honor numbers and have been doing it for so long that it entices others to do it, and legit players can no longer compete with those numbers, despite pvping every opportunity. To put things in perspective, the horde standing one from this week ending June 22nd has been anonymously farming 40k+ honor consistently since mid April, placing in the top 3 standings each time, and this week went over 50k, pushing myself and another PvPer back another week at the end of our grinds, without being seen pvping or inspectable in town for months. This person may very well have reached rank 14 this week or may reach it next week without ever being identified. I can help clean things like this up, give me the opportunity. The thing that I can bring most to the table is that I am likely the most active PvP player on the server, and know who is pvping and who is not on both factions. I have been able to predict with a small margin what the top 10 standings have been for both factions for the last 5 months, and if you like, I can tell you what the PvP standings will be with a high degree of confidence for the next 3 weeks that haven't happened yet, who is what standing, and roughly how much honor. But knowing how much honor the massive farmer is likely to farm is not helpful in identifying them. I have done what I can to foster a healthy pvp system as a player, it is time to put new tools to use as a GM. Q21. Professionalism, integrity, and honesty are required at all times. In what ways do these words describe you? I am generally a pleasant person and I try to deal in good faith in all of my interactions. Q22. Have you ever been disciplined by a Gamemaster on VanillaGaming? No. Although, I have been on the receiving end of Bizarro's animated .gifs. Q23. What can you do to help the server grow? I am tapping into the communities I was active in when I was playing classic, and telling players about what VG is like. There is some interest. Q24. What is your definition of teamwork? Multiple team members working together to achieve a common goal. Q25. Is there anything else that you would like the Staff to know? I am currently a horde only player, active pvper, and multiboxer (MC 7/10, ZG 5/8). I have been playing on VG since December and like the community. I hope that I can help make it grow and prosper. Thank you for your consideration, Sabin Title: Re: DRGsabin GM Application Post by: DRGsabin2 on June 23, 2022, 01:07:03 am I was unable to add attachments due to a filepath error. Here they are.

Title: Re: DRGsabin GM Application Post by: DRGsabin2 on June 28, 2022, 04:05:34 am Thank you everyone for the kind support. I have received a few messages that people who don't log on the forum often wanted to reply here, but were unable to login or reset their passwords due to the website not properly sending E-mails.
On an unrelated note, Garr dropped the binding this week, and also my first shaman helm after many kills. Shiny sword coming soon =). Thanks to the players who come and keep me company. Keep playing, keep voting, and tell your friends to come play with you on VG. Although, there was more WSG when I was ranking my mage still. Only the rare WSG here and there nowadays, and the ganking rogues in IF and Org. I have tried to schedule premade Arathi Basin, no luck. Maybe my proposed dueling tournament will bring more interest in PvP.
There was a bit of controversy and complaining at first about world PvP, but once I made it clear to the Alliance raiding guild that I would try not to take their buffs for raid, it just became a norm. As for the 50k+ farmer mentioned, I suspect indeed that it is one person farming his own accounts, and proposed a layer of defense against that as well in my suggestions. That person has been identified by other players and the GMs have the name, along with evidence. What is your main Nuld? Come play. Due to little to no BGs, it is quite easy to rank at low honor, until higher rank and a need to push a bit more.
