Title: New Core Testing Announcement
Post by: Avius on April 04, 2019, 08:33:11 am
Hello there VanillaGaming! It is I, Avius, and I come to you now at the turn of the tide...of testing.

So, what am I talking about? VG is launching a large scale testing event for the new core. This is of course to ensure that the new core is in a good state before it is released on the live server, and we want your help to make it so. So, starting right now and continuing for a few weeks you can go on to the PTR(Private Test Realm) and test anything as well as you join any of the official testing session for raid and PVP content. Lastly, there will be testing rewards, they will exist in three tiers depending on what you do and how you contribute.

Tier 1: Showing up for and participating in testing sessions set by Avius. You don't have to show up for every single one as we may end up with somewhere between 3-6 of them, but the more the better. The reward for this will be considered the "Testing token" which you can use to show off your superiority or AFK in IF/ORG. This mean you will get to choose one of the "OLD" mounts, aka Pre patch 1.4.0.

Tier 2: For this you will have to bring a bit more. You will actively test any content from leveling, bugs and creatures or anything else you can come up with were issues or general bugs may exist. When you find them you will make a forum report in the new "New Core" testing forum section using the appropriate template and providing the appropriate proof for how it should work. The reward for this will be provided to the top performers in terms of quality reporting and report/bug value, meaning reporting a critters pathing won't help you much. The reward for this tier is the quest Welcome! (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=5805)(there is version for each race)

Tier 3: While tier 1 and 2 can be stacked, meaning you can get them both if you put in the work. Tier 3 is special and exclusive and can't be stacked with tier 1 or 2. For tier 3 you will become a "Lead tester" and work directly with Avius  to help manage the testing event throughout. This means you will have to attend testing sessions, manage your assigned area and help where it's required as well as provide answers and help to all other testers. You will help with proof testing and replicating bug reports as well as challenging the proof provided to ensure it's validity. This is not a role for someone hoping to score an easy reward, you will be held to high standards. There will be a limited amount of "lead testers", somewhere around 5-8 most likely. The reward from this will be a high level unobtainable unique(no two will receive the same) companion, as well as one "OLD" mount.

The "Lead tester" team will be announced as soon as they are all chosen and you can at ANY time ask them any question about the testing or bugs you may have found and even for help with making your report, either by in-game mail/chat/whispers or by Discord and they will get back to you as soon as they can. How do you become a "Lead tester"? you do so by announcing your interest in becoming a "Lead tester" to Avius on discord in a PM and I will get back to you with a few questions etc. You can find Avius on the VG Discord (https://discord.gg/RyMhVam) in the "GameMaster" section.

Any guild that wishes to participate and can provide 35+ players can have their guild master or officers contact me via Discord.

How to access the PTR? You do NOT have to change anything in your realmlist.wtf file. All you have to do is launch your wow and log in to your account, when in your character screen you select the button above your character list called "Change Realm" and select the one called "VanillaGaming PTR" and press "Okay". That's It. You can see that a copy of all your VG characters have already been made there ready and waiting for you.

Anything that happens on the PTR will NOT affect your character on the live server.

New Core bug report section (https://vanillagaming.org/forum/index.php?board=79.0). This is where you make all of your bug reports for the new core

Bug report template (https://vanillagaming.org/forum/index.php?topic=23372.0). This is the template you use when you make your bug report, this template is mandatory when doing so.

Lead testers: Chess, Brawnzy, Miinx, Lowhealth, Atreyyo, Hotani

*Please keep up to date with this post there will be updates and some changes may be applied in the first few days*

Yall are prolly gonna clear naxx is 3 hours on the new core. Patchwerk should be a breeze if he's scripted properly. Same thing with KT's aggro.

This far there are six testing sessions planed, two per week for three weeks of which at least two are NA timed. The testing event will continue until we have gathered the necessary testing data and once it's done the rewards will be granted. To be eligible for tier one you need to attend more than 50% of the testing sessions for your region. Each session will last around four hours.
IMPORTANT: To ensure no one is excluded or forgotten by mistake, take screenshots from time to time to ensure that you have proof, screenshots have to be fullscreen and try to include something unique to the PTR.

The "Lead Testers" have now been chosen and they are:
Chess, Brawnzy, Miinx, Lowhealth, Atreyyo, Hotani

If you have any further questions feel free to ask and I will do by best to reply.

Good testing, hyped for new core. Guess all reports got fixed and we just need a few more tests to check the fixed content.

Not at all.The server has it's 100-150 hardcore players who have spent years of effort and energy in their characters. Despite all bugs and other things on the server, somehow it has survived the test of time and it will continue to do so.On another hand,it is impossible to predict what Classic will become in upcoming months, not to mention years.

maybe can't predict how well vanilla will do (hugely) , but I predict how well VG will do. My definition of dead server is less than 100 population both sides counted, no ENDGAME raids, no bgs, no pvp.

Might not be a swift chop off the head kill, but it will die as my prediction. Better find your friends & foes to stay in touch with them afterwards before you find yourself crying after reading their last activity/log in on guild page.

Well, thats a very low definition. You need at least a few hundred ppl PER SIDE to get any feeling like a real MMORPG, otherwise you will almost never be able to find a grp for a dungeon you currently want to do, questline etc.

VG is sadly since a long time below that. If you can cut off the first M of an MMORPG, its dead. And the 27th of Aug will even make things worse.
Its the result of obviously nobody feeling responsible for VG any more for a long time. False core promises, no development, no advertisement, nothing. Thats why all the ppl left.

yes that's why I said that was the definition of a DEAD server.

On the otherhand there's a chance that people who don't want to pay for classic wow might move to VG from lightshope and all the other private servers that are shutting down

I'm sorry but people playing elsewhere and all the other private servers arent even aware of VG's existence, and if they logged in and saw the state/quality of the server they'd just laugh and logout... it's below the standard they are used to

Edited: other servers redacted

Sad but true  :-\ I also started on VG and moved later to another server because of too few players and no variety of raiding guilds anymore. I had a way better experience there and yes, almost nobodoy knows VG there.

I dont think so. Other servers will still have a vanilla realm, well maintained and good populated with 1-2k players. If ppl want to play vanilla for free they will rather go there.

Off-topic: I modified your posts and removed the slight advertisement for other servers. I do not want to hinder the discussion on-topic though.

I said there's a chance. Not that it was guaranteed. You have no idea what kind of ripples shutting down a popular server can make. When nostalrius went down there was a huge population boom for VG why would that not be possible again? I know the circumstances are a bit different but it's not crazy to believe that it could increase for a bit. However, the retention rate of players is pretty abysmal though but I've spoken my mind on that time and time again.

It's summer time though and the Classic release is soon. That doesn't mean that population decline can be explained thoroughly by one or the other. We'll have to see what is going to happen in a few months.
