Hello everyone,
I joined VanillaGaming in January this year.

I would like to know a bit of it's history. I understand that:
- the server is up since 2009
- since December 2011, VanillaGaming has a new website - vanillagaming.org
- since September 2013, VanillaGaming has it's own database site

The questions:
- what is (was) the connection between VG and AOWoW?
- What AO (from AOWoW) stand for?
- AOWoW was called Valkyrie some time ago?

There is no connection between VG and AoWoW.

AoWoW seems to be developed by the mangos team github readme.

Valkyrie is a Vanilla WoW Server and probably has no connection to the AoWoW project either.

I know a long time ago Vanillagaming was called Prebound. It was an instant 60 server with
starter vendors.

The connection between aowow and VG is that aowow became our database and is now found at db.vanillagaming.org instead of aowow.org

AoWOW was a third party hosted database website , nothing else , with the public mangoszero database on it ; which it still has for security and confidentiality purposes ; the history is that zeard bought the domain once it expired from previous owner and redicted it to db.vanillagaming.org

that is the history of it and vg; for aowow i suspect it was probably a live version of the github project mentioned

Can you elaborate on that a bit? I don't see why exposing item, spell and npc "metadata" (and not scripts or any logic) is considered a security threat.
If you mean possible threats by sql injection I suggest cloning the db and striping delicate data of it.
